More room to educate Guyana' future leaders

Days of attending classes in an overcrowded, deteriorating auditorium are over for 200 students at the Annandale Secondary School in Guyana. On March 5, 2016, the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) handed over a new two-storey building to education officials, after funding its Construction through the Basic Needs Trust Fund (BNTF). BNTF invested USD 142,500 in the extension sub-project. The new building at Annandale Secondary features eight classrooms, which Head Teacher Nicholas Persaud noted would help create a learning and teaching environment more conducive to the students' mental and physical development. BNTF Project Manager, Michael Singh hands over the keys to the new building to Pauline Lucas, Regional Executive Officer of Region Four, Guyana. Students and staff of the school; Dr. Hector Butts, Alternate Governor, CDB and Finance Secretary in the Ministry of Finance, Guyana; and Michael Singh, BNTF Project Manager were among attendees at the handover ceremony. The Annandale Secondary School Extension sub-project is the first to have been completed under the seventh cycle of BNTF in Guyana. The new building at Annandale Secondary School in Guyana. The seventh cycle aims to reduce poverty and vulnerability by enhancing access to basic social and economic infrastructure and human resource development services.
