Innovation and entrepreneurship are seen as leading growth engines for development. The U Innovate Challenge and U Innovate Forum were two youth activities that formed part of VYBZING Trinidad and Tobago 2011. CDB welcomed the opportunity to support the youth in these initiatives.
The U Innovate Challenge competition was open to young Trinbagonians between the ages of 18 and 25 who were invited to develop a proposal for a mobile application. The final judging for the competition was held on May 23 at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad. Several prizes were awarded to the winning entries, including cash, IPad2, netbook and smartphone. The winners will also receive mentorship and technical assistance support to develop their applications.

Sterling Ramroach and Keshav Bahadoor were the first place winners with a proposal called “Todd Alerts”, a mobile application intended to bridge the gap between patients and health centres. Keisha Gaspard and Sarah Ramacharan took second place with a proposal called “Bob”, a mobile tour guide that is informative, educational, interactive and user friendly. Lendyn Phillip took third place with “Traffic Scout, a mobile application integrating social networking and GIS technology to bring traffic alerts to your mobile smart phone.
