Capoey Primary School Extension – Guyana

Country Guyana

June 23, 2015

The main challenges with the facility is inadequate space to accommodate the students, and also some design issues which reduced the quality of the facility as a learning institution.  Classrooms are partitioned by chalkboards which causes major disturbance. Additional, there is inadequate ventilation and poor lighting, especially when it rains.

The sub-project will rehabilitate and expand the existing building to accommodate 100 students.

  • learning environment transformed into one that is more child friendly;
  • The increase in space will provide the opportunity for other students in that community who could not be accommodated at that school to now gain entry into a school that is closer to home; and
  • enhancements in the sanitary facilities as well as area for food preparation will facilitate health care and hygiene within the school.
