Programme

Overview

The school has an enrollment of 495 students (280 male, 215 female) and has no science laboratory.  The school was constructed without a laboratory, during which time, sciences were not taught at the institution.  However, this concept has changed and integrated science, agricultural science, physics, chemistry and biology are being taught at classroom level.  The provision of facilities for practical instructions has therefore become necessary.

Objective

The sub-project will provide additional facilities thereby creating improved learning environment for the students of the Port Mourant community.

Benefits

  • the science lab will allow for improved teacher instruction and student learning outcomes, especially in the practical areas of the curriculum for science subjects;
  • through the provision of a well-organised and equipped laboratory, the academic programme of the school will be notably strengthened;
  • increased numbers of students choosing science subjects and overall interest in the subject area will be peaked; and
  • persons with disabilities are less likely to be excluded from accessing quality education as ramps will make classrooms more accessible.
