‘JahMi! Studio’ presents winning business idea in VYBZING Forum

The group JahMi! Studio received the judges nod when they presented their business idea on the final day of the 2016 VYBZING Jamaica Youth Forum in Montego Bay.

The team which comprised of Bryan D’O rnellas, Matthew Layne, Karlashay Wilson, Stephane Nelson, Nicko Johnson and Tijani Christian, business idea focussed on using animation as a platform for education.

The group described the JahMi! Studio business concept  as “a creative community that focuses on locally produced and industrial design animation.” The aim of JahMi! Studio is to be an “innovative think lab that transform and translate our culture through animation.”

Second place in the business challenge was awarded to the group, ‘iSpeek‘ for creating a platform for Caribbean youth and for creating a business that can integrate the region, while ‘Trash to Treasure‘ and ‘Waterloop‘ tied for third place. The judges also recognised Trash to Treasure with the Social Enterprise Award for their business concept for an event planning firm that uses recycled materials as décor for events. Waterloop is a solution for water management.

The award for Most marketable went to ‘Agri Connect‘ for their idea which partners supply and demand by proposing a produce delivery service tasked with ensuring that the plentiful food in Jamaica reaches those most in need.

The other groups’ business concepts were:

  • Live Jam – a mobile app which uses gaming to teach non-Jamaicans about Jamaican culture
  • Healthwiz – transforming illness into wellness
  • Dliver iT – a mobile app and website that gives persons in Jamaica the ability to get their desired products delivered
  • Yaad Canvas – online marketplace selling Jamaican arts in its various forms – visual, performing, culinary
  • Jade Wealth Management – financial advisor for small and medium size enterprises
