Belize Gets Loan from CDB to Upgrade Electricity Systems

The Caribbean Development Bank will provide a loan of USD11.231 million to the Government of Belize for a project to upgrade and expand sections of the country's sub-transmission and distribution systems, which will enable the Belize Electricity Limited (BEL) to provide a more secure and reliable electricity service. The upgrade of the systems will also assist BEL to reduce the probability of economic loss due to catastrophic incidents and to prepare the system to accommodate the incorporation of renewable distributed generation as envisaged in the National Energy Policy Framework. The Project will also provide for the undertaking of a feasibility study of submarine cable supply to Ambergris Caye, Caye Caulker and Placencia.
