CDB Provides Grant To Haiti To Assist With Access To Education For Poor Children

The Caribbean Development Bank will provide a grant of USD11 million to the Government of the Republic of Haiti to assist the country in improving access to primary education and Early Childhood Development for poor children, and to enhance equity and governance of the education sector. The project will provide for tuition waivers, student nutrition and health, pre-service and in-service teacher training, school textbooks, multi-grade learning programmes, and activities to improve student literacy skills. It will also support community-based activities for school building and teacher training. And, it will improve governance and enhance financial management and procurement skills within the Ministry of National Education and Vocational Training, Ministère de l'Education Nationale et de la Formation Professionnelle (MENFP). The project is an integral component of the National Education for All Strategy and will support the Operational Plan for Education articulated after the earthquake of 2010. This project is the second phase of the Education For All Programme and will be funded jointly with the World Bank.
