Seminar 2 – Fintech: Finding the Balance Between Disruption and Creation
Panellists will discuss the potential benefits of integrating Fintech within the regional development strategy and Caribbean ecosystem, particularly for Micro, Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs) and marginalised communities, and to raise awareness around the structural and policy changes that will be required to support such integration. The seminar will seek to increase awareness and advocacy for a regional strategy and roadmap for the implementation of digitalisation strategies and the advancement of Fintech within the Caribbean. It will further highlight the opportunities that Fintech provides for the Region, including to reduce poverty, increase market connectivity and regional trade, and improve the marketplace for MSMEs and marginalised communities.
The seminar also provides a unique opportunity to leverage south-south partnerships, among and between Caribbean countries and their nearby Latin American partners, to harmonise regulations and to learn from previous experiences in implementing and executing the Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), digital wallets/payments systems and other Fintech solutions and to engender strategic development of technologies, including Fintech, that can support Borrowing Member Countries in overcoming critical development.
