Summary

The United Nations Development Programme Caribbean Human Development Report on Citizen Security 2012 indicates that there has been an increasing level of violent crime in some countries despite the efforts of the crime agencies in the state. Increasing levels of violent crime have the potential to put at risk the performance of key productive sectors, particularly the hospitality industry, and render already fragile economies unattractive to investors. It can also frustrate entrepreneurial pursuit and impact productivity negatively. The increase in violent crime has induced the population and policy-makers to divert resources from other more productive purposes, such as education, to activities related to security and protection.
