CCJ President to Deliver William G. Demas Memorial LecturePresident of the Caribbean Court of Justice, the Right Honourable Mr. Justice Michael de la Bastide, T.C., will deliver the Seventh Annual William G. Demas Memorial Lecture.Mr. Justice de la Bastide is a distinguished jurist and member of the Privy Council. He served as Chief Justice of Trinidad and Tobago from 1995 to 2002. In 1996, he was awarded the Trinity Cross, that country's highest national honour.The lecture will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16, 2006, at the Rose Hall Resort and Country Club, Montego Bay, Jamaica. His topic will be "Putting Things Right - and the Caribbean Court of Justice". This lecture will form part of the activities being staged to coincide with the Thirty-Sixth Annual Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB), which will take place at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Resort and Spa, Montego Bay, on May 17 and 18. CDB inaugurated the lecture series in 2000 in honour of the Bank's second President, William Gilbert Demas, a distinguished economist and champion of regional integration. The late Mr. Demas served as Secretary General of CARIFTA (transformed to CARICOM in 1973) from 1970 to 1974, and President of CDB from 1974 to 1988. On leaving CDB, he returned to his native Trinidad and Tobago as Governor of the Central Bank.
