CDB to Engage St. Lucian Youth on Road Safety

Published on
From May 15 - 17, 2013, youth ages 16 - 29 from across St. Lucia will gather at the Bay Gardens Inn to discuss the issue of road safety, with the aim of creating a Youth Declaration for Road Safety. The initiative is part of the Caribbean Development Bank's (CDB) Youth VYBZING Outreach Programme. Annually, CDB hosts a youth forum in one of its member countries, to address a key youth development concern via its Youth VYBZING Outreach Programme. The programme is a platform for youth engagement with emphasis on youth empowerment and participation in the development process. During the interactive three-day session held under the theme, "Road Safety: Save a Life, Save a Future," participants will identify factors which place young people at increased risks for road related deaths and injuries, and identify areas road safety decision makers in the Caribbean should focus upon to mitigate these factors. They will also learn project management skills to aid in the creation of their own projects which can be implemented in their communities to address the issue of youth and road safety. The VYBZING Forum is being conducted in collaboration with the Government of St. Lucia's Ministry of Youth Development and Sports, will be facilitated by Youth For Road Safety (YOURS), an international youth-led and youth-oriented non-governmental organisation focused on young road safety. The forum is one of the pre-activities surrounding the Bank's 43rd Annual Meeting of its Board of Governors in St. Lucia on May 22 and 23, 2013. Participants in the VYBZING Forum will present the Youth Declaration for Road Safety to CDB's Board of Governors at the closing ceremony for the Annual Meeting on May 23, 2013. CAPTION: The 2013 VYBZING Youth Forum in St. Lucia will be led by Global Youth Network for Road Safety Director, Mr. Floor Lieshout (left), and Mr. Manpreet Darroch (right), Communications Officer and Coordinator of Global Youth Network for Road Safety.
