CDB Promoting Creative Entrepreneurship among St. Kitts and Nevis Youth

Published on
Young men and women from across St. Kitts and Nevis will be exposed to the business opportunities in the creative industries as part of the Caribbean Development Bank's (CDB) Youth VYBZING Outreach Programme. The exposure will take place at a workshop entitled ‘Promoting Creative Entrepreneurship,' which will be held at the Ocean Terrace Inn from May 13 - 15, 2015. More than 30 participants between the ages of 18 - 35 are expected to attend. During the interactive three-day session, participants will receive introductory management training that would allow for effective development and planning of creative business projects. The goal of the initiative is also to contribute to the development of a cadre of cultural workers and cultural management professionals in St. Kitts and Nevis. The sessions will include: business management; strategic planning and management; strategic marketing and entrepreneurship. They will have an opportunity to develop a knowledge base in these areas, and apply that knowledge to develop and possibly implement a small yet impactful project idea working in teams. The VYBZING Forum is being conducted in collaboration with the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis' Ministry of Education, Youth, Sports and Culture's Department of Youth Empowerment, and will be facilitated by UWI Consulting. UWI Consulting is a subsidiary of the University of the West Indies (UWI) tasked with helping to unlock the development potential of the people and institutions in the Caribbean Region by providing professional advice and capacity building services. Annually, CDB hosts a youth forum in one of its member countries, to address a key youth development concern via its Youth VYBZING Outreach Programme. The programme is a platform for youth engagement with emphasis on youth empowerment and participation in the development process. The Forum is one of the pre-activities surrounding the Bank's 45th Annual Meeting of its Board of Governors in St. Kitts and Nevis on May 20 and 21, 2015. Participants in the VYBZING Forum will also make a presentation to CDB's Board of Governors at the closing ceremony for the Annual Meeting on May 21, 2015 at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort.
