CDB's CTCS Provides Small Hotels in Dominica with Marketing Training

19 small and boutique hotel properties in Dominica are now better equipped to market their product and services due to training received during a five-day workshop on "Marketing Techniques for Small Hotels" conducted by the Caribbean Development Bank's (CDB) Caribbean Technological Consultancy Services (CTCS). The workshop which was undertaken with the assistance of Dominica's AID Bank, focused on areas such as the methodology for developing a marketing strategy; main sources of marketing portals and costs and benefits; brand development and new trends in brand management; and the development of a marketing action plan. It also provided participants with guidance on effective marketing through social media, and gaining market share through marketing. Participant, Ms. Decima Sharplis of SeaWorld Guest House stated, "The course really increased my awareness on where I need to be in the industry, as well as what I need to get there," while Roseau Valley Inn's Ms. Patsy Charles noted, "I am much more knowledgeable now than before the course. I now need to focus on getting my situation under control." Ms. Lorie Victor of Picard Beach Cottages described the workshop as "great," noting that it far exceeded her expectations, while Mr. Jeffrey Xavier, Proprietor of Mr. Clean Bed and Breakfast pledged to put the lessons learnt into action. Mr. Michel Thomas, Operations Officer (CTCS), CDB revealed that a support mechanism has been put in place for workshop participants. "A consultant has been contracted to provide follow up on-site coaching to assist participants in transferring knowledge and skills learnt to the work place, and to initiate the implementation of their marketing action plans developed during the workshop,". He said the workshop took place on January 16, 18, 23, 25 and 30, 2014 at the Fort Young Hotel, Roseau, Dominica.
