May 25 No. 7/09-BDCDB TO PROVIDE ADDITIONAL FINANCING FOR THE WEST BASSETERRE BYPASS ROAD PROJECT IN ST. KITTS AND NEVIS The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) has approved an additional loan of USD6.29 million to the Government of St. Kitts and Nevis to finance cost escalations and additional works in respect of the West Basseterre Bypass Road Project. The original loan of USD7.56 million was approved by CDB's Board of Directors In December 2003. The revised project will include the Construction of approximately 3.8 kilometres of road and associated drainage, beginning at Cayon Street near the General Hospital and terminating at the Kim Collins Highway near the Robert L. Bradshaw International Airport. It will also include a 0.6 kilometre link to the St. Peter Road and the Shadwell community. Five bridges and five roundabouts or junctions are to be constructed as part of the roadworks. The project also seeks to improve Government's capacity to better control vehicle loads by allocating resources towards the purchase of two portable weighbridges and upgrading the road traffic legislation. As a result of the project, road users in St. Kitts should see a reduction in their vehicle operating costs and should also save time in their daily commute.
