Youth FIRE Opening Ceremony

May 28, 2026

The Youth FIRE Forum Opening Ceremony marks the official launch of one of the Caribbean’s most important youth engagement platforms, hosted by the Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) ahead of its 56th Annual Meeting of the Board of Governors in Nassau, The Bahamas.
Bringing together youth leaders, policymakers, and development partners from across the Caribbean, the ceremony sets the tone for two days of action-oriented dialogue focused on climate resilience, economic opportunity, digital innovation, and social inclusion. It reflects a growing recognition that Caribbean youth are not only beneficiaries of development but key drivers of the Region’s future.

The Opening Ceremony will feature remarks from CDB President Daniel M. Best and the Honourable Mario Keith Bowleg, Minister of Youth and Sports of The Bahamas, alongside representatives of the Future Leaders Network (FLN). Together, they will highlight the importance of empowering young people as partners in shaping sustainable and resilient Caribbean development.

Why This Matters

Caribbean youth face complex challenges, including high unemployment, limited economic opportunities, climate vulnerability, and rapid digital transformation. At the same time, they represent one of the Region’s greatest assets—bringing creativity, innovation, and fresh perspectives to pressing development issues.

The Youth FIRE Opening Ceremony introduces a platform where:

  • Youth voices are elevated in regional development conversations
  • Ideas are translated into actionable solutions
  • Partnerships are built across generations and sectors

What to Expect

  • High-level opening remarks from regional leaders
  • Youth-led perspectives from Future Leaders Network representatives
  • A preview of the Forum’s thematic focus areas, including livelihoods, digital innovation, climate resilience, and social transformation
