Strengthening Collective Solutions for Shared Challenges
The Caribbean’s development challenges —economic vulnerability, climate risk, food insecurity, limited scale—often transcend national borders. Regional cooperation and integration offer powerful pathways for overcoming these constraints through pooled resources, harmonised policies, and coordinated action.
To deepen regional collaboration and unlock shared opportunities, SDF 11 will pursue this strategic priority by:
- Supporting regional initiatives in trade, transport, and infrastructure connectivity, with a focus on enhancing food and energy security.
- Promoting the harmonisation of policies and regulatory frameworks, especially in agriculture, public procurement, and investment facilitation.
- Advancing joint approaches to disaster risk management (DRM) and climate resilience through regional institutions and shared systems.
- Strengthening regional statistical and knowledge platforms, to support evidence-based planning and monitoring across countries.
- Enhancing cross-border institutional cooperation, including through capacity-building and technical assistance to regional bodies.
Scaling Impact Through Regional Synergy
Greater unity through regional synergy unlocks tremendous opportunities to ramp up efficiency, enhance bargaining power, minimize reliance on external stakeholders/trading partners and enhances economic development among BMCs. Yet regional integration efforts are often slowed by coordination challenges, policy misalignment, and gaps in institutional capacity.
SDF 11 recognises that no single country can tackle today’s complex challenges alone. Whether it’s ensuring food security, mitigating climate risks, or improving trade logistics, collective action can amplify results and reduce duplication. By investing in systems, platforms, and partnerships that span borders, the Fund will help build a more resilient, connected Caribbean—better positioned to compete globally and deliver sustainable outcomes at scale.
