Trade is a critical driver of economic growth and competitiveness in the Caribbean. The Caribbean Development Bank (CDB) supports Borrowing Member Countries (BMCs) in strengthening their trade systems, expanding export capacity, and creating enabling environments that integrate the Region more effectively into global markets. In promoting sound trade policy, providing technical assistance, and building institutional capacity, the Bank helps countries harness trade as a pathway to sustainable development.

Focus Areas

CDB works with governments to strengthen trade policy and planning while supporting effective participation in regional and multilateral trading arrangements. This includes helping countries overcome technical barriers to trade and aligning national policies with regional agreements, ensuring that trade commitments translate into tangible economic opportunities.

To reduce bottlenecks and increase efficiency, CDB invests in initiatives that simplify and harmonise export procedures, improve customs systems, and strengthen border agencies. By modernising trade processes and building the capacity of institutions, the Bank helps BMCs expand exports, improve market access, and create a more competitive trading environment.
