Seminar - Agriculture: Let's Embrace the Opportunities

May 8, 2019

The 49th Annual Meeting of the Caribbean Development Bank's Board of Governors takes place from June 2 to 7, in Trinidad and Tobago.

The Meeting programme includes a memorial lecture, seminars and a youth outreach initiative. 'Agriculture: Let's Embrace the Opportunities' is one of the discussion topics of this year's Meeting.

The Bank, in partnership with the Food and Agriculture Organisation, is currently undertaking a comprehensive review of Caribbean agriculture.  This is part of an ongoing revision of CDB’s agriculture sector policy and strategy, which dates back to 1981.

CDB’s objective is to play a significant role in transforming regional agriculture into a sector that is competitive, inclusive and sustainable. The seminar aims to foster an exchange among key stakeholders with a view to:

  • determining whether there is agreement with the conclusions of the CDB-financed study;
  • identifying measures which could be undertaken at the national and regional levels to reverse the stagnation in the agricultural sector; and
  • exploring options on how CDB could partner with BMCs, regional and international partners to address agricultural sector related concern.
