The Caribbean MicroFinance Alliance (CMFA), a regional network representing the microfinance industry (MFI), successfully hosted a training course on Improving Operating Efficiencies from November 26 - 28, 2014 at the Accra Beach Hotel & Spa in Barbados. This workshop formed part of a series of training courses designed to address identified operational and technical capacity weaknesses within microfinance providers, in order to improve their institutional viability. The course was attended by 17 participants, representing 13 microfinance institutions and credit unions from eight of the Caribbean Development Bank's (CDB) borrowing member countries (BMCs). The training course was facilitated by Dr. Howard Haughton. Strengthening the capacity of the CMFA is one of the objectives of the Caribbean Microfinance Capacity Building Project (CARIB-CAP), a regional project sponsored by CDB, the Multilateral Investment Fund (a member of the Inter-American Development Bank Group), European Commission, and Citi Foundation. CARIB-CAP is a regional capacity building programme designed to further contribute to the development of the microfinance sector in the Caribbean, linking it with mainstream microfinance and best practices in the sector worldwide. The specific objective of this programme is to improve the performance of MFIs in the Region through additional capacity building, product development and increased outreach to new clients.
